We proudly announce that a new member has joined the extended family of the world’s museums – Shmakovka Museum, probably the only museum that offers to see an integral part of cultural and historical, and gastronomical element of Latgale – homemade strong alcoholic drink shmakovka. You will have a unique opportunity to bear witness to the development, progress and changes of this tradition-rich beverage. So simple and true in its essence, yet so varied in its taste. Shmakovka Museum is set up in Daugavpils in the Unity House (entrance from Unity Square) ,is a beautiful place for relaxation and for an informative tour.

Residents from both close and farther neighbourhoods participated in the formation of the exhibits of the museum. They gladly donated objects that are connected to the making of shmakovka. The museum has acquired bigger and smaller devices, containers and dishes, pipes and tubes, measuring instruments, glasses and many other objects that initially seem incomprehensible. Shmakovka distillery model with every its detail described has been set up on the premises of the museum, and from a guide’s narrative the process of how a sip of this wonderful Latgalian drink is made will become clear to everyone. Everyone who tasted shmakovka had a taste for a song as well.
